While creating your character in Stardew Valley, everything the character creation screen will ask will affect the physical ascetic of the game – gender, skin, eyes, hair, clothing, and animal preference. But there is one intriguing line that does not affect what you will see immediately. That is your favorite thing. And there is exactly one prompt that will mention your favorite thing – when your character takes a bite of a Stardrop.

A Stardrop will increase your maximum energy by 34 points because it has a strange power, as referenced by this line of text in the game.

“This is a mysterious fruit that empowers those who eat it. The flavor is like you’re walking in a dream… a powerful personal experience, yet it is difficult to describe to others.”

Once you eat the Stardrop, one of the following text will appear on the screen.

“It’s strange, but the taste reminds you of [Favorite Thing]. “Your mind is filled with thoughts of [Favorite Thing].”

Now if you make your Favorite Thing ConcernedApe, the following line of text will appear when you take a bite out of the Stardrop.

“Your mind is filled with thoughts of… ConcernedApe? (Well, thanks!) ConcernedApe”

ConcernedApe is a username that the creator of Sardew Valley has used on multiple web forums. Eric Barone, aka ConcernedApe, has single-handedly programmed the game, wrote the story, created the art, and designed the sound effects. If I took four years to create a game, you bet I would find a way to find myself in there.

Nerds and Scoundrels

And that is it! The Favorite Thing field is designed to reveal this one specific Easter egg if the player decides to make it ConcernedApe. It has no real effect on the game. Do you enjoy small references like this in the games you play?
